Established in 1980, Wellington’s famous City Gallery was New Zealand’s first significant non-collecting exhibition-based public gallery. Located in Wellington’s Civic Square, the City Gallery has a strong cultural presence in its architecturally impressive building. With a strong focus on contemporary visual arts, architecture and design, its exhibitions are ever-changing and regularly feature significant national and international artists. Boasting a reputation for innovation and style, the City Gallery’s exhibitions are both challenging and inspiring, making this a gallery very worth a visit. Be sure to check out the famous Nikau Gallery Café located in the gallery building too.
